Round 5 Announcements

Recommended Posts

Going into Round 5, I am looking to bring on at least two more admins. If you're interested, please send me a PM listing your govsim and RL qualifications and if there are any major game areas that you'd be more interested in running than others. I'd like to have the full team in place within just a couple days, so please contact me ASAP if interested.

Please join me in welcoming @David Parker and @Jonathan to the admin team! Parker will be working on foreign policy scenarios while Jonathan will be doing things on the domestic front. Stay tuned for a formal list of admin duties.

Rules changes to Round 5

  • Elimination of Event Cards
  • Momentum is now awarded as a result of good gameplay (similar to when your affinity ratings change as a result of PRs, debate, etc)
  • Each player will receive weekly approval ratings
  • Restructured lobbyist system
  • Scandals will no longer be part of the character creation process but can be submitted as a PM to Richard
  • There are also election rule changes coming, but I'll let Richard announce those

A couple notes on the new approval ratings:

  • This was a short week with not a ton going on so many of you saw a dip in your ratings. Nothing to be alarmed about.
  • I suspect that it will take a couple weeks for a new character's numbers to stabilize. This may lead to your numbers fluctuating a bit.
  • Remember that this is a somewhat new system so I welcome feedback.

Please see Bruce's note above about fluxuations in some character numbers this week.

So one thing I'm going to try to accomplish this round is giving some targeted feedback with regard to how debate went on particular bills and Amendments. It's going to work like this: I'm going to read debate in Congress on particular bills. I'm going to try to come at the debate from the lens of both highly partisan and independent minded citizens and media. And once debate is over I'm going to try to give feedback on which side (or which member), was particularly convincing in the debate.

Most of the time it's going to break down along party lines: "Democrats did a fantastic job providing the argument as to why this form of gun control is effective.", sometimes it's going to break down ideologically, "The populist fire breathing attacking corporate CEO salaries was unconvincing because it never addressed X", and sometimes I'll single out particular members of Congress, "Representative Pizzuto really led the charge on getting rid of Obamacare and laid out a pretty devastating case as to why it needs to happen."

This will have a VERY small impact on general popular opinion. This will have a VERY small impact on how the Senate might view a particular issue. This will have a VERY small impact on, say, the popularity polls for a particular Representative.

And before you ask, no, you can not ask me to comment on particular debates. I will choose them on my own without any player involvement because sometimes the zeitgiest picks up on things in a way that feels like it has little rhyme or reason (even if we all know better!).

As more than a week has passed since he's paid us a visit, @Sizey is removed as HML and the GOP is asked to elect a new Leader.

Please join me in welcoming @Chris to the admin team. He'll be filling the role of Domestic Admin handling various scenarios and news. In the coming days I'll have a completely updated Admin Team Duties list for you.

Afternoon,

There has been quite a few asks about lobbying and I am proud to announce the following PACs.

Conservative:
Christian Coalition
National Defense Industries Association
Chamber of Commerce
American Petroleum Institute
NRA

Liberal:
NAACP
AFL-CIO
Sierra Club
Move On
Brady Campaign

 Moderate
Rural Institute
Common Cause

I will be creating a list of priorities for each group. By accomplishing a priority or participating in our many rallies your characters may earn money. Please note that similar to house debate and press releases the merit of your speech will be factored in. Our first rallies will be hosted by  American Petroleum Institute and Sierra Club.

I have tweaked a number of formulas regarding affinity ratings, momentum, and approval ratings. As such, you'll notice significant changes to your affinity ratings. Essentially, when a new character was created it should have started with significantly higher ratings than they were. I've gone back and corrected this for all characters.

I have also posted new approval ratings. These are more dependent on your affinity ratings vs your state (or national demographics for POTUS, VP, and Cabinet characters) than before. Remember that momentum points come from public activity -- simply participating in Congress doesn't usually generate momentum for you.

@Richard has tendered his resignation on the AB effective immediately. As such I will be taking over elections at least for the 2018 election.

Please join me in thanking Richard for his service to the game over the last few rounds and for having served on the AB for the last 6 months.

Each party is receiving $50 million for use in the 2018 election. This money can only be spent by the person who is posting the party hours campaign schedule (usually the Party Chair or his/her designee). This party fund should be considered simply a prepaid Visa card. It cannot be fundraised for nor donated to (allowing that creates a loophole for multi cash I'm not comfortable with). Any balance remaining after election carries over to the next election cycle.

This obviously does not prohibit players from spending their personal warchest on campaign activities as well.

Finally, now would be a good time to re acquaint yourself with the new election rules this round:

Hi guys,

I will be working on the latest CBO request for the economic bill hitting Congress. Given the nature of what is being asked and how long it usually takes a typical CBO to grade something this vast, I'm considering an alternate grading style that focuses more on broad brush strokes and gives you guys enough ammo to have a political debate, without getting bogged down in hyper-specific numbers and decimal points. Before I do that, I want to run this idea by my fellow admins.

If they like the idea, I will give the current bill requested my "new" score. If a wide cross section of players don't like it (the style, not the score), then Ill go back to the old way, though I think it's inferior for the system we run. I'm hoping to hear back from folks in the next day or so and I'll have my score after I hear back.

If you have concerns you can obviously IM me on Telegram.

Thanks for your patience. If this new style works it should help you get scores back faster with most of the brushstrokes you need to make decisions for your character.

Right here on these boards I'm opening up a brand new game. It is a historical govsim set in 1789 with the 1st Congress. Before I start advertising for that game, I'm giving you folks an opportunity to claim your House seats. As an added incentive, if you sign up for Conceived in Liberty within the next week you will receive an additional $20 million for your main character's warchest.
