Quote

It is an honor to represent the people of California in Washington!  We have a lot of work to do to straighten out the shameful behavior of our President.  We will restore the American prestige that has been discredited the last two years. The rise of hate, discrimination, and prejudice must be opposed by those in leadership.  The attack on the LGBT community, the continuation of women being harassed and assaulted by powerful men with no consequences, foolish trade wars, the revolving door of cabinet members, a hostile immigration policy that separated children from their parents, and so many more horrendous things will be remedied.  With a record number of women winning congressional seats, our impact will be felt.  Now we have proper checks and balances and can hold our nation's leaders accountable to the people.  I cannot wait to get down to business in Washington.  The blue wave will be a tsunami of justice these next few sessions until reason is restored!

A message from new DNC Chair, Naomi Brightwell.

Quote

It is my pleasure to announce that I will be stepping in the role of DNC Chair.  I believe that our party will be stronger than ever with our diverse cast.  For a record number, we have more women serving in Congress than any other time in history.  We elected the *youngest congresswoman ever.  And we elected two of the first ever Latinas to congress as well as two Native American women have been elected for the first time ever.  New Mexico is poised to have the first U.S. House delegation comprised entirely of people of color.  Kansas elected the first openly gay person to represent the state.  Michigan elected the first ever Muslim woman in congress as well as another woman who is also the first Somali-American House member and a former refugee.

I am pleased to announce that our Speaker, Calvin Ward, will be a wonderful representation of the Democratic South!  Democrats from all over the country have a home here with the DNC.  Additionally, we have Dylan Macmillan from New York serving as our House Majority Leader.  Lastly, we have Preston Moss of Colorado serving as the Majority Whip.  We are pleased to see the geographical diversity in our party's leadership.  We are going to have a wonderful session.

We are a diverse party and truly represent what America looks like.  This new era of strength through diversity will result in major changes that will improve our country for years to come.  I look forward to this endeavor and with all of your help in this journey.  We will see positive changes in our future!  Let's keep this momentum moving forward!

DNC Chairwoman Naomi Brightwell makes statement endorsing Erick Travere for Midwest Governor.

Quote

I am proud to endorse Erick Travere as Midwest Governor. His business experience shows that Democrats are the pro-business party.  He sets the example of how the wealthy can contribute to the community with his generosity while promoting better working practices for the working and middle class.

This philanthropist will lead the Midwest the best of all the candidates in the race.  His ability to collaborate will come in handy in the Governorship of Midwest!  Let’s make it happen!

DNC Chairwoman Naomi Brightwell makes statement endorsing Andrew Whitaker for Southeast Governor.

Quote

I am proud to endorse Andrew Whitaker as Southeast Governor. He has thorough plans to improve the economy of the Southeast to create better, cleaner, and more sustainable job growth for years to come.  The disaster relief that has not be addressed well will be remedied by Andrew’s decisiveness as a leader.  Through the rigors of natural disaster, I cannot imagine anyone better to keep the Southeast region safe.  He is also preparing steps to have a much brighter future with his plans for education.  Already, Whitaker has been outlining his plans to broaden educational opportunities for all youth in this region better than any other candidate.

The strength of his leadership has been demonstrated across the globe.  His prowess for safety, his in-depth experience, and ironclad discipline are unmatched by any Governor candidate across the nation.  We are honored that he chose to run as a Democrat when he could have chosen either side.  The partisan politics we are used to are not the way Andrew leads.  He is different and has always put country first.  In some instances, we disagree over some ideological issues; however, I can respect his point of view just as he respects the points of view of those who disagree with him.  Andrew is a leader who listens and willing to hear you out.  A true leader that this region needs.

We are more than thrilled to see Secretary Whitaker taking the route of public service in an elected capacity.  He was always serving his country and doing his duty as a general and as Secretary of Defense.  Here he is again, but this time, he needs our help and our votes.  So get out there and support the future Governor of Southeast, Andrew Whitaker!

DNC Chairwoman Naomi Brightwell makes statement endorsing Jon Ward for Northeast Governor.

Quote

What is better than Speaker Ward?  Speaker Calvin Ward and Governor Jon Ward!  You will have the chance to vote for Jon Ward as Northeast Governor.  This region has demonstrated it’s commitment to progressive policies.  Governor Ward will be a progressive pioneer that this region deserves.  He will fight for your healthcare rights, for your freedoms, and for more opportunities.  He is going to combat the fear this White House has been spouting and restore the confidence in our nation by leading this region with integrity.  This example will be one that every Governor should model.  No more should we fear monger or try and scare voters into voting for a candidate.  Instead, we shall allow the debate to commence and if I were a betting person, my money would always be on Jon Ward.  Let’s go out and see the next Governor of Northeast, Jon Ward!

DNC Chair, Naomi Brightwell makes statement about proposed Constitutional Amendment.

Quote

Our nation is in deep need of campaign finance reform.  In the early news of Whip Moss's actions, we should remedy this situation immediately.  The censure on Moss is only the first step in dealing with his crime.  We look to our justice system to do their job.

While the justice department will do their job, we must act as representatives of this nation by fighting the money in politics.  President Trump was an advocate for getting money out of politics just as many of the American people agree that this is a fundamental step in preserving our democracy.  The oligarchy and weak campaign finance laws promote unethical and illegal behavior to run rampant.  Although Moss confessed, there are more like him as well as large, powerful lobbyists who attempt to control elected officials with campaign donations in exchange for votes.  This means that special interest and money is how Washington operates and not for the people.  Let's do the right thing and make a constitutional amendment to officially stand up against money in politics.

DNC Chair Naomi Brightwell makes statement on Charles Talleyrand's House Floor actions.

Quote

Apparently, the GOP either are desperately disorganized or just aren't paying attention to what is trying to be accomplished in DC.  Representative Talleyrand of Louisiana chose to block all UC bills on the floor with the exception of the Moss Censure.  After blocking the UC of the bi-partisan budget bill, he shortly withdrew his objection.  If that is not oblivious, obstructionist behavior, I do not know what is.  Just blindly blocking the House floor on bills and initiatives that were bipartisan show just how ignorant the GOP members in congress are.  This budget has been worked on by both Democrats and Republicans in the house with input and involvement by President Trump.  Any delays in this budget will only hurt the American people.  No one wants a shutdown; however, the GOP are playing games.  I do not think this is a game.

In addition, the reason to block Campaign Finance Reform affects not the Democratic party, but the majority of the American people who wish to see money out of politics.  Clearly, the special interests at play are using their pawns to keep their power over elected officials.  I know, it must be difficult for GOP members to win elections without special interests lining their pockets, but our government works for the people and not special interest.  Let's hope that when it comes to voting for the Campaign Finance Reform resolution, we get our 2/3s majority.

DNC Chair, Naomi Brightwell (left), and House Majority Leader, Dylan Macmillan (right), make a joint statement about the White House's response to the Moss indictment and the lack of justice for Representative Hamilton

This statement by the White House is incredibly disturbing.  These are the facts of the scandal, “Hamilton was already accepting a bribe from someone else in the GOP to vote for the Fitzgerald amendment and asked Moss if he could “beat the offer” in exchange for his Nay vote on the Fitzgerald amendment.  Yet Moss goes down, as it should be, but Hamilton doesn't.

The White House’s response shows the double standard of the law between Democrats and Republicans.  According to the Hill, “Moss has been sentenced to serve no less than 4 years in a federal penitentiary and a $10,000,000 fine.  On the other hand, Jesse Liu, the US Attorney for the District of Columbia, has refused to file the same charges against Republican Congressman Hamilton. In a statement she said, "the elements of Mr Hamiltons part to play in this situation coincide with recent Supreme Court rulings on federal bribery."

The US Attorney General of the District of Columbia has refused to file the same bribery charges to Hamilton as she did to Moss.  The court ruling, they cite as protecting Hamilton is US v. McDonnell.  US v McDonnell is not relevant in this situation as Hamilton was fully involved and aware of the bribe and engaged in bribery discussions.  He accepted a Republican bribe to vote for the Fitzgerald Amendment and asked if Moss could "beat" their GOP member's offer.  This is, as the court case states, " To qualify as an 'official act.'"  Hamilton did much more than organizing the meeting, he officially acted with malicious intent in order to receive more money for his vote.  He was explicitly involved in a bribe and attempted to exploit Moss by inquiring whether he could beat his current bribe.  The lack of action by our justice department is evidence that the Trump Administration holds Republicans above the law.  This is dangerous to our democracy and justice.  No one should be above the law, but apparently, the Trump Administration is handing out “get out of jail free cards” to any Republican in congress.

DNC Chair Naomi Brightwell makes statement about President Trump's recent vetoes

Clearly, President Trump only cares about the R next to a bill and not the actual value it will have on the lives of millions of Americans.  After the legislative branch worked together in a bipartisan effort with the Family Leave Act, President Trump uses his veto power to spit in the face of American families all across America.  Shameful.  This is a man who cares very little about women in the workforce and the ability for paid medical leave.  Perhaps President Trump should listen to his daughter, Ivanka, who has been for this for quite some time.  I hope the voters see this and turn out to vote in 2020.

Additionally, we must continue to press President Trump on his tax returns.  The Liar in Chief seems to be hiding something.  Don't worry America, we will fight to overturn his veto as the majority of the legislative branch believes the Presidential Tax Transparency Act is essential to remove conflict of interests from the executive branch.  President Trump loves power, but we will hold him accountable.  The American people want accountability and our President will do everything in his power to hide his skeletons.

Naomi Brightwell makes a brief statement on SNAP Benefits

According to the Hill,

"PEOPLE TO LOSE ACCESS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO SNAP BENEFITS

More than 200,000 adults across the country are to lose access to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the main federal program which helps them buy food. Both federal and state rules are to be tightened, requiring them to either get a job or do volunteer work to keep their benefits. A lot of these rules were suspended following the economic downturn in 2008, with only a handful of states allowing them to continue.

The rules for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps, have been in place since 1996 when they were signed into law by former Democratic President Bill Clinton. Conservatives across the country have lauded this as an opportunity to get people back to work and off benefits while Liberals have attacked the moves as hurting the most vulnerable in society, who still may have not recovered from the economic crash."

The silence on this catastrophe is stunning.  The old guard has let us down and we must take action. Despite the hurdle to get the GOP members convinced renewal or reinvention of SNAP is necessary, we will make this a priority.  SNAP needs to be updated for the new era of America.  SNAP is a way to combat poverty, promote healthy eating, and address inequality while promoting equal opportunity and service.  Let's work together to protect Americans who face misfortune so that no American has to go hungry or see their family go hungry.

Naomi Brightwell Addresses US Farmer Problem Due to Tariffs

According to the Wall Street Journal,

"US CROPS ROT AS STORAGE COSTS SOAR

As Chinese-US tariffs remain in place, many farmers of the Midwest and throughout the United States are left with a problem - where to put the mountain of grain they cannot sell to Chinese buyers. With previous reports of soybean exports falling by 94%, farmers are failing to get rid of their produce with no buyers and no where to store it. Across the United States, grain farmers are plowing under crops, leaving them to rot or piling them on the ground, in hopes of better prices next year. U.S. farmers planted 89.1 million acres of soybeans this year, the second most ever, expecting China’s rising demand to give them better returns than other bulk crops. But Beijing slapped a 25 percent tariff on U.S. soybeans in retaliation for duties imposed by Washington on Chinese exports. That effectively shut down U.S. soybean exports to China, worth around $12 billion last year. China typically takes around 60 percent of U.S. supplies."

Once again, poor ideas and foolish plans by the GOP leadership and President Trump force farmers to throw away profits.  Our President who claims to be the best in business practices is obliterating farmers' ability to sell their crops.  So much for 'winning.'  This is bad business and bad leadership.  China has demand for our crops and our exports, but our Republican party is supporting tariffs that make meeting that demand impossible.  This hurts our midwest, southeast, and plain states the most. It hurts farmer and consumers. It hurts the heart and soul of America.  Many of whom have typically been loyal to the Republican party.  To those of you in those regions, those farmers, why are you loyal to a party that has left you out to dry?  They play games with your business and your profits for petty trade wars.  The Republicans are willing to wage petty trade wars over pride while you suffer and watch your ability to feed your families and make a living drop immensely.

Not only does the Republican leadership support these tariffs, but Midwest Governor candidate Granata agrees and supports these tariffs.  Although he has no power over federal policy, he has advocated his support for these practices.  He is a blind establishment follower.  If you have to choose Good Boy Granata, the pro tariff candidate, or Erick Travere the pro-worker and pro-farmer candidate, I can guarantee you that Travere will be the better option.  Fortunately, Representative Sharp trails Andrew Whitaker in the Southeast.  Don't ease up Southeasterners.  Do not let Sharp, the pro-tariff and anti-farmer candidates win.  In the Plains, Jack Swanner is a Trumpist blind follower.  He supports tariffs which means he is anti-farmer.  Your ability to export crops is his least concern as all he wants is power.  You have an option this gubernatorial race.  How much longer are you willing to allow the Republicans to tank your profits?

The Democrats are the pro-labor, pro-worker, and pro-farmer party.  We will stand by you and help you maximize your profits by fighting to remove these foolish tariffs and end the trade wars.  We ask you for your support and votes in the next election and in 2020.

Naomi Brightwell (D-CA) makes an announcement.

It has been a wonderful experience serving in the house of representatives.  I cannot help but feel this country needs much better leadership at the top.  The way our country is perceived is oftentimes how our President acts.  These past four years have been disgraceful and despicable.  President Trump has vetoed Presidential transparency and Family Leave which his own daughter believes in.  We need better leadership, and I believe that I can provide that.  That is why I am proud to announce that I am running for president of the United States!

Naomi Brightwell makes statement about her Presidential candidacy

After some deliberation with fellow colleagues, I see that we have such a large, talented group of presidential candidates in the DNC.  From the wealth of experience by Secretary Olivia Williams and Secretary Andrew Whitaker to the new faces of Governor Erick Travere, Representative Darren Fitzpatrick, Representative Vincent Brown, and Majority Leader Dylan Macmillan.  Sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing.  I felt compelled to announce my campaign for President until I have realized the DNC is in great shape for 2020.  I am formally withdrawing my candidacy for president and will take a supportive role for 2020 in the planning and strategy for a successful 2021.

What makes a strong President is the ability to overcome adversity.  A challenge that pushes each other to become stronger.  We have completed a highly contested debate where our candidates displayed their passion and vision for this country for the world to see.  I am proud of the candidates who have stepped up and let their voices be heard.  The exchange of ideas and accountability demanded by each other shows the people that each of these candidates are willing to fight for their beliefs and for the people.  After the primaries, I have no doubt we will unify; however, we see that the Republicans have chosen to only put up one candidate.  This means they are forcing a candidate down the Republican voter's throats.  There is no decision, only conformity.  Paul Vang will not be ready to be President and will lack earning the Republican nomination due to the weakness of the GOP.  Even our lowest polling candidate has more skin in the game and is proving his worth more than Representative Vang.

I will refrain from announcing my support to any one candidate until a later date.  There is still a lot of time during the primaries.  I look forward to seeing how this election plays out.

Naomi Brightwell Resigns as DNC Chair and makes a brief statement

It has been a pleasure to serve the party as DNC Chair.  At this time, I believe I should step down from my role due to personal reasons and allow another member of the party to take the reigns.  The party will vote on (OOC: Whatever date in-game is December 6th at 11:59 PM).  The new DNC chair will take on the responsibilities immediately.  I will still be in congress and championing our candidates for a solid 2020.  Thank you and God Bless You.

DNC Chair, Naomi Brightwell, makes statement on Governor Jack Swanner's ability to Govern

Jack Swanner is dangerous.  Let’s break down why he is unfit as a Governor.

First, despite being a states right advocate, Jack Swanner agrees with concealed carry reciprocity.  This means it doesn’t matter if you live in Colorado and have specific gun laws, someone from another state with loosely regulated gun laws can come into your state without proof that they are law abiding gun owners.  This is dangerous for those who live in states with gun laws that prevent people who should not have a gun from getting one while allowing anyone who visits a state with loose laws.  This is not a states rights position.  Instead, this is forcing states rights to comply with Swanner’s thinking.

Secondly, he wishes to allow guns in schools.  Instead of preventing “bad” guys with guns to have easy access to acquiring guns, he believes in arming teachers who do not need any additional training other than the simplest license.  Unarmed ‘good guys’ are statistically better than armed ‘good guys’ per an FBI study on active shooter incidents.  According to * David Chipman, a special agent for the Beureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for 25 years before becoming a senior policy adviser at gun violence prevention advocacy group, said this:

“I can imagine scenarios wherein trained hands, a gun could be used in self-defense of oneself. It’s a whole ‘nother thing to imagine [how] a gun in untrained hands could somehow result in winning a gun battle, and my belief is that this ‘good guy with a gun’ messaging really is a sales technique to encourage people to believe that their capabilities with a gun are well beyond what they would actually be like in scenario like Parkland,”

Has Jack Swanner ever been in a public school let alone been in a public school recently?  Arming teachers without requiring additional training is nothing more than a bad idea to solve a serious problem.  The NRA used to be about teaching people about gun safety and gun training. It is a shame that pawns like Swanner are not part of a greater scheme to sell more guns and put guns in the hands of anyone who wants one.

Additionally, his views of undocumented immigration are pure ethnocentrism.  He believes that if someone is not a born citizen, those children are not allowed to attend school.  This will increase poverty and deprive people the opportunity to have a successful life or pursue the American dream.  I suppose if you hate undocumented immigrants so much, you will eventually go after their children.  As if President Trump locking kids in cages wasn’t bad enough, Jack Swanner might even go further.

His method to “crack down” on undocumented immigrants is to punish law abiding Americans.  His hate, bigotry, racism, and white nationalism will lead to the struggle of many law-abiding Americans. How do you ask?  He passed legislation to attack and prohibit Sanctuary Cities.  These funds will prevent education funding, police, fire, social security, Medicare, research grants, and so much more funding that those cities need in order to thrive will all be gone because of Jack Swanner.  This is villainous and abhorrent.  There are better ways to do this and handle undocumented immigration, but Jack Swanner is going too far.

More in immigration, Governor Jack Swanner has decided to ignore eminent domain by including a border wall in Texas.  He is too foolish to realize that a wall will not even solve the problem and he is making the Plains region pay for it.  It is quite primitive thinking.  It is the wrong thinking.  This law deprives the Americans he serves of better education, police, infrastructure, transportation, and other services due to the commanding funds a wall requires.  Don’t fall for Swanner’s ignorance.

Lastly, Governor Swanner is going to restrict a woman’s right to choose.  I respect that he is willing to allow exceptions for rape or incest or when the health of the mother is at risk; however, I think it is about time men stop dictating reasons why a woman can or cannot have an abortion.

This is an easy decision for the Plains Region.  Jack Swanner is a dangerous Governor and Republican politician who is going to restrict states’ rights, punish law abiding citizens by attacking undocumented immigrants, commit to wasteful spending on a border wall, pass out guns like a pez container and make our schools less safe.

Avoid Governor Swanner at all costs.  You deserve better!
