First Responder Immunity Act

Governor LEWINSKY, for himself, submits

A BILL

To allow first responders to treat opioid overdoses, and for other purposes

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
(a) This bill may be cited as the "First Responder Immunity Act".

SEC. 2. PROVISIONS. 
(a) A law enforcement officer, fire fighter, or paramedic who, reasonably believing another person to be undergoing an opioid-related drug overdose, administers naloxone or another opioid antagonist to that person shall be immune from civil or criminal liability for any outcomes resulting from the administration of the opioid antagonist to that person, provided that:
(i) the law enforcement officer, fire fighter, or paramedic has undergone training on the administration of naloxone or other opioid antagonists; and
(ii) the law enforcement officer, fire fighter, or paramedic reasonably followed the training on the administration of naloxone or other opioid antagonists. 

SEC. 3. ENACTMENT. 
(a) This bill shall go into effect immediately upon signature by the Governor.
