K-12 Mental Health Act

Mr. Travere, for himself and others, submits the following bill

A BILL

To provide further funding for mental health professionals and equipment in k-12 schools

 

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE

This act shall be cited as the K-13 Mental Health Act

 

SECTION 2. APPROPRIATIONS

  1. $5,000,000 shall be appropriated from the regional education budget for the purpose of,

    1. hiring new mental health professionals, including but not limited to in school social workers and counselors,

    2. purchasing new equipment related to mental health treatment,

    3. ensuring the safety of students,

    4. treating mental health disorders in k-12 students,

    5. providing improved and modernized children’s mental health services

  2. The funds appropriated in paragraph 1 of this section shall be distributed to the states based on k-12 student population

  3. The secretary of education for the region of the Midwest shall ensure the funds are spent as described in the first paragraph of this section.

 

SECTION 3. ENACTMENT

This act shall go into effect upon its passage

Reminder of the recently updated rule: 5. A minimum of 72 hours shall be given for debate on a proposed bill, which may be extended by a majority vote via a motion in the legislature or the discretion of the Speaker. A maximum of 48 hours, after the minimum amount of time for debate has passed, shall be given for the Governor and Regional Leader to submit the respective whips for their parties for any vote on a motion, bill, etc. Whips may be submitted during the debate period.
