The Swearing-In of Marcus Richard Walker as Vice President of the United States PPT Chuck Grassley gavels the Senate into order. Grassley: The Senate will come to order. The prayer will be offered by Chaplain Black. Black: Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men. We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful; and that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up our selves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with thee and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, world without end. Amen. Grassley: The first order on the agenda is the swearing-in of Marcus Richard Walker as Vice President of the United States. The Chair welcomes The Honorable Justice Keith Blackwell to perform the oath and The Chair asks that the Vice President-designate be escorted into the chambers. Blackwell enters from a side door. Walker and his wife, Caroline, are escorted from the main door by Governor Steve Austria, Senator Rob Portman, Senator Jim Renacci, and Senator Gary Peters. Blackwell: Please repeat after me. I, Marcus Richard Walker, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. Walker: I, Marcus Richard Walker, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God. Blackwell: Congratulations, Mr. Vice President. Grassley hands Walker the gavel. Walker bangs the gavel and begins to speak. Walker: Thank you, Justice Blackwell, Senator Grassley, Governor Austria, friends and colleagues in the U.S. Senate, and of course, my lovely wife Caroline. I look forward to working alongside President Fitzgerald in the coming months and years to bring prosperity to all Americans. I also look forward to getting to know you all or getting to know you better in these next few weeks - I am excited for our work together. With that said, the next item of business on the calendar is Morning Business. The Chair recognizes the Senate Majority Leader. Senator McConnell?
