    Susan Morganelli (Democrat)

Character Name: Susan Morganelli Home State: Pennsylvania Previous Job: Media (Actor, Musician, Artist, Journalist, etc) Date of Birth: 03/27/1980 Race / Ethnicity: White Religion: Catholic Wealth: Middle Class Gender: Female Sexuality: Heterosexual Are you married?: Yes How many children do you have?: 3 Susan Elisa Morganelli is an American Democratic Party politician who serves currently as the United States Representative of Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District. Morganelli was born as the third of six children on March 27th, 1980, to long-serving Pennsylvania State Senator for Scranton, Carmine Morganelli and his wife Barbara. Born into a political family which traces its involvement in Pennsylvania State Democratic Party politics back to the mid-19th century, after the family emigrated from the then disunited Italy. Morganelli would attend the University of Pennsylvania between 1998 and 2002, where she studied English and would contribute to the university's Lampoon magazine. After graduating she would write for Rolling Stone magazine focusing on national political with a satirical lean. In 2006 she was drafted in to run for the 50th District of the Pennsylvania Senate, centred around her home county of Erie in north-west Pennsylvania. Narrowly winning the seat that generally leaned towards the GOP. In the State Senate she would compile a moderate voting record, which would enable her to win re-election in 2010 by an increased margin. In 2012 she would run for Congress for Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District. An ancestrally Democratic district that had elected only Democrats between 1952 and 2002, the district had flipped to the GOP in the 2002 midterms and remain in the Republican column until 2008 when it flipped back to the Democratic side, before flipping back to the Republicans in 2010. Running as a moderate populist Democrat, she would narrowly defeat incumbent Republican Congressman Mike Kelly by a 49-47 margin. In her five terms in Congress she has compiled a generally moderate voting record mixing a generally progressive record on economic matters with a moderate voting record on social issues. She has also been a member of the Blue Dog Coalition for most of her time in Congress. Despite this she would endorse Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic Party primaries on account of his economic policies. After the 2016 election she would argue that the party had ignored and abandoned aspects of its base in the Rust Belt and that it had to re-engage with these voters. She would face a primary challenger in 2018, but would emerge relatively unscathed and won her district once again with an increased margin of victory over her Republican opponent. Morganelli is married to historian & author Paul McAllister (b. 1977, m. 2005), together they have three children, Sara (b. 2006), Isabella (b. 2009), Maria (b. 2015). Morganelli is a practising Roman Catholic. View full character
